Hair loss can affect anyone. There are different causes as to why some experience hair loss. Some of these factors include genetics, age, environment, drugs and medications. There are also different types of hair loss. This article will try to tackle all of them.

The first type of hair loss is the Androgenetic Alocepia or Male or Female Pattern Hair Loss. This is the most common type of hair loss. Androgenetic Alocepia or AGA could be due to genetic factors and can affect people after they reach their puberty period. Hair would begin to thin at the crown and temple of a one’s head. As the person matures year after year, the hairline at the temple will continue to recede. And the person’s bald spot at the crown will be increase in size. As time goes by, all that will remain on a person’s scalp will be a thin border of hair at the back and around the side of their head.

The next type of hair loss is Alopecia Areata. The term alopecia is the medical term for hair loss. This condition causes bald spots on the beard or scalp of a person. Hair usually grows back in a few months after the condition starts. But with extreme conditions, hair would not grow back at all. However, all body hair would not be lost. There are a lot of factors as to the cause of alopecia areata. This includes emotional stress, preposition to allergy, immune and autoimmune system responses and hereditary factors.

Then we have Telogen Effluvium. Telogen effluvium, which is common to mothers in postpartum periods, occurs when hair follicles go into the telogen phase hastily. This is the second most common type of hair loss as stated by dermatologists. Telogen phase is the resting phase of our hair.  Telogen Effluvium or TE occurs when there is a change in the number of follicles going into the telogen state. This condition triggers the shedding of hair thus making the hair in the scalp thinner. Telogen Effluvium could be triggered by various causes including childbirth, medication, stress, malnutrition, illness and surgical operations. TE does not cause hairline recession and is just a temporary form of hair loss. People experiencing TE do not lose all of their hair but the thinning of hair could be visibly seen. TE can be reversible in time. All it takes is to wait for the hair follicles to normalize. Then your hair will go back to its normal state.

Cicatricial Alopecia or scarring alopecia refers to a group of assorted diseases that destroys the hair follicles; change them with scar tissue and causes eternal hair loss. Hair lose would be gradual and could go unnoticed for a long period of time. This is due to the fact that the inflammation that destroys the hair follicles is below the skin surface of the scalp. Affected areas would exhibit slight signs of inflammation but it could be itchy at times while with some, it could have some burning sensations. This condition could affect even the healthiest men and women.
