A nice, lustrous hair is considered as a woman’s crowning glory. Unfortunately, not every woman can take pride in their locks. Some are left envious of the shampoo commercials and billboard models boasting their thick healthy hair.

It was only years ago when men are the only target of hair loss surveys. But currently, even women are taking part of the dilemma. Because women are now leaving a very stressful life, juggling family, relationships, career and her self all at once, they are now prone to different health discomforts such as heart disease and hair loss. These are the conditions that only men use to populate.

Ten years ago, seventy percent of the people affected by hair loss are men alone. The remaining thirty percent is made up of children and women. But according to the surveys conducted recently, there are at least forty percent of women who are under the condition of losing their crowning glory.

There are several reasons why hair loss among women is running after the figures of hair loss in men fast. One of the many reasons why hair loss is now rampant in women is because of the amount of their food intake. Because of the thriving popularity of skinny people in the showbiz industry, women are now taking fewer intakes of nutritious foods that would make their hair healthy. Iron deficiency is considered one of the main nutrition-related culprits of hair loss among women. It covers at least seventy-two percent of all the hair loss cases in this gender. Without enough blood circulating in the areas where hair grows, thicker and fuller hair cannot be achieved.

Women experience hormonal imbalance that men are not able to experience. It comes from different health conditions and from taking different oral medicines. Conditions such as PCOS or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome causes hormonal imbalance in women. As a result, the affected woman will suffer from a condition called estrogenic baldness or female pattern baldness. In female pattern baldness, the hair line of the woman does not recede. However, the thinning hair occurs at the top part of the head, leaving only the hair located at the side and at the back. Aside from PCOS, taking oral contraceptives, post natal stages of pregnancy and menopause may also lead to severe hair loss.

Pregnancy is another inevitable stage in a woman’s life. After taking all the necessary foods to make the baby inside healthy hair loss still occur. However, it happens only a few months after giving birth. This condition is called Post Partum hair loss. The estrogen level in a pregnant woman’s body increases during the nine-month long course. But after giving birth it suddenly drops back to its normal level causing hair to fall out.

Stress also plays a big influence in the appearance and thickness of hair, both in men and women. If a woman is so preoccupied and stressed out, she releases hormones that could inhibit the growth of healthier hair, causing moderate to severe hair loss.
