Men are more prone to hair loss than women. That is why there are more over-the-counter products and products that needs prescription that are available for men. These anti-hair loss products are designed where only men are in the minds of the manufacturers. It is not to be used by women because of the possible side effects. This is because the reasons behind the falling of the hair in men are different from the causes of hair loss happening in women. However, due to the different researches conducted and with the advancement of the technology, some of these hair loss remedies intended only for men can be now used for women as well.

Minoxidil has been long prevalent as a hair loss remedy for men. At least five percent of minoxidil is used in most topically applied hair loss products. Women may also use hair loss products containing minoxidil. However, it must contain a lower percentage compared to the percentage of minoxidil present in men’s hair loss product. Only two percent of minoxidil is needed so that women can use the said hair loss remedy. The product containing five percent minoxidil should be applied at the man’s scalp for at least two to three times a day. He must religiously apply the chemical until the desired hair thickness is reached. If the product is suddenly discontinued, the same goes for the improvement of new growing hair.

In search for the over-the-counter products that could treat hair loss in men, aside from minoxidil, one must look for the product that has a dihydrotestosterone or DHT inhibitor. This is because DHT, a specific type of male hormone called androgen, is the main culprit for falling hair. Dihydrotestosterone is not only present in men, but also in women since male hormones are both in men and in women. Moreover, products with DHT inhibitor do not only prevent hair loss in men. It may also help prevent the development of a health condition that only happens in men called benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH.

Hair loss is also connected to the deficiency of several vitamins that the body must have. There are pills that can be taken orally by men to improve the growth of their hair. These are not just anti-hair loss pills but multivitamins as well. It contains several herbs and herb extracts. Moreover, there are also biotin, Vitamin B5, folic acid, and silica present in these pills. It helps hair regrowth and maintenance of the newly formed healthy hair. On the other hand, while all these components will certainly do well for the body, it can harm it as well. Make sure that you would not take any other supplements containing the same vitamins. There is a limited milligram of these vitamins that one must take every day. Getting overdosed by these vitamins may further increase your chance of getting bald rather than developing a thicker and healthier hair. You may ask a professional about the recommended dosage of these vitamins that you may take everyday.
